Kevin Erdmann

Owner/Trainer

My first exposure to CrossFit was in 2018 at age 38, and I have been an active member of CrossFit Tempest ever since. Prior to CrossFit, I did not consider myself an athletic person. I tried several workout programs over the years but never found anything I could stick with. CrossFit was different. It challenged me in new ways, motivated me to push harder, and sparked a desire to keep learning and improving.

The community at CrossFit Tempest has played a huge role in my journey. It has supported me, developed my skills, and pushed me to achieve the best level of fitness in my life. In May 2021, I became a CrossFit CFL1 Trainer. In August 2022, I joined the ownership team, further deepening my commitment to the gym and our community. I continued that progression by earning my CrossFit CFL2 certification in April 2023.

As someone who started as a “typical” and “average” person, I am passionate about helping others begin their journey at CrossFit Tempest. I enjoy working with new members to show them that CrossFit is for anyone, regardless of fitness level. I also enjoy working with experienced members, helping them stay challenged, refine their skills, and continue progressing. I remain very active in my own training and take pride in helping others reach their goals through consistent effort, proper guidance, and a supportive community.

I have always been a runner. I’ve done multiple marathons and half-marathons and always felt I have been in good shape. However, in the spring of 2018 I overtrained and developed knee pain. Despite therapy, I couldn’t run without pain. A few months later, a friend talked me in to trying CrossFit. I admit I was hesitant, however, I found I could do the workouts without pain and enjoyed the camaraderie of the CrossFit community. Everyone is supportive and encouraging. I loved how the varied workouts challenged me, and I have transformed into a stronger version of myself. I also now run pain free. CrossFit is challenging but worth the effort! As an Orthopedic Surgeon, I understand how important regular exercise and sound nutrition are to being healthy. I decided to become a CrossFit coach because I believe that this type of workout is the best way to continually improve your fitness, and I want to help others achieve their goals. Both as a surgeon and CrossFit coach I am encouraging people every day to get and stay fit. Everyone knows they need to exercise and what poor diet and activity choices do to you. But it is hard to get and stay motivated and consistent to exercise over months and years. The CrossFit workouts are never repetitive, so they don’t get boring or become easy, and the community is so great and supportive that you want to keep coming. I enjoy coaching others to develop the skills they will use to stay healthy for a lifetime.

Nathel Cody

Trainer

I first discovered CrossFit in 2018 after years of searching for a gym or group workout that could keep me motivated. I was hooked after my first class.

As a nurse and a veteran, I understand the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. CrossFit continues to challenge me both physically and mentally, and I love that there is always a way to push a little further. It never gets easier because you get stronger.

In 2022, I earned my CrossFit CFL1 certification and continued my development with my CFL2 in 2023.

I am passionate about helping others find that same connection to fitness. I enjoy working with people of all ages and ability levels, building both physical strength and confidence. Watching someone hit a new personal record or accomplish something they once thought was impossible never gets old.

CrossFit Tempest is more than a gym. It is a community that sees the potential in you and pushes you to become the best version of yourself.

I am a mom to 4 boys and have always enjoyed being active. As a former high school and collegiate athlete, I thrive on the friendly competition that comes from working out with others. It keeps me motivated to keep pushing and trying to improve, or learn new skills. But I also love how your competitors are also your biggest cheerleaders, encouraging you when you do learn that new skill, or PR that lift. It's such great community. Running has always been my 'thing' but when a hip injury slowed me down I was feeling lost and frustrated. A few friends kept inviting me to try CrossFit and I finally gave in! I have never been a 'weights' person, but I fell in love! I didn't even know what half the moves were, but with great coaches leading and helping me, I grew as an athlete. Yeah, I'm old but I'm not giving up that title just yet.  I love the community and that every workout can be scaled to your own level. I found there were things I was good at and things where I STILL struggle, but it doesn't matter. I'm getting a great workout and seeing results because I work hard and changed my diet. I got my L1 certificate to help others see results too!

I grew up in the town of Salem, SD. I loved being outside, spending time with family, and playing sports. I was just going to a regular gym to workout. I have never heard of CrossFit until a friend asked me to do a partner competition in October of 2018. That competition changed my life and I have been doing CrossFit ever since. I continue to compete in competitions both partner/ team and induvial. CrossFit gives me the opportunity to challenge myself not only physical but mentally as well. CrossFit is a true community where friendships are made. When I joined CrossFit Tempest, I also joined a family. I got my Level-1 CrossFit Certification in January of 2023. I enjoy helping people find parts of themselves that they ever thought they had both physical and mentally. I love guiding people to find that new skill, honing a movement, and hit that new personal record.
